Slamming it down isn't going to win you the game on the spot, but it gives you a chance. Damping Sphere is a card that gives you game against multiple unfair strategies, in a not-insignificant way. Those cards are just the best hate against the things they're trying to fight, and their power is a bit abnormal. The reality is that most cards aren't Rest in Peace or Stony Silence. Either way, it opens a window for you to do something against decks that would otherwise be going off too quickly for many other decks to keep up. Damping Sphere is a card that pumps the break on both of them, and forces your opponent to deal with. Tron and Storm are two of the more popular decks in modern, and they both do very powerful things that can be hard for a lot of decks to interact with. I actually very much like the design of this card because it offers one of the most valuable things a card can have in Modern: Diversity. People had unrealistic expectations for it, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Sphere slows those decks down, but it doesn't shut them out completely. The problem is that a lot of people had this idea in their head that it would just shut down Tron and Storm (and similar), but that's not how it works. Find the right cards that can shore up or kold unfavorable matchups (eg: Auriok Champion in Humans against Mardu). So my Humans strategy against Tron is let it ride! Sideboard slots in Modern are precious and opposing strategies myriad. Eldrazi Tron and Storm are already favorable matchup for Humans as well, so there's less decks you even want to bring it in against. Tron also may side in Nature's Claims against Damping Sphere or Stony Silence which is sometimes in Humans SB as well in addition to hitting Vials. And the tempo loss from dropping it on turn 2 can affect your clock to the point that it is just a detriment. Damping Sphere does not really stop that on the draw. "traditional")Tron is largely going to be draw dependent vs Humans, a swingy matchup that depends on whether Tron lands a nut draw Karn Liberated or early urzatron into Ugin/Oblivion Stone/Walking Ballista. I see Humans decks adding it to the sideboard.
